BDO audits Sustainability Reporting Award
On 21 May 2009, The Council of the Federation Committee on Economic Policy, Business and Ownership honored the winners of the Russian Sustainability Reporting Award 2009. BDO Unicon was the official auditor of the Award.
In the course of the parliament proceedings on "Corporate Social Responsibility during economic crisis: challenges, experience and perspectives" at the Awards ceremony in Moscow the results of the competition were announced. The grand prix was given to Mining and Metallurgical Company Norilsk Nickel.
The Award recognizes entities that publish the most complete and up-to-date sustainability reports and disclose data on social and environmental activities.
Vitlaly Sheremet, BDO Unicon Partner and member of the Expert Committee of the Award, says: ‘We are honored to be the official auditor of the Award. The outcome of consultations with our colleagues of the Expert and Steering Committees has reaffirmed our view of great importance and timeliness of the sustainability reporting even during economic crisis. It is pleasant to note the high level of the submitted reporting which indicates the significance of the social and environmental activities of companies operating on the Russian market. We hope that participants in the competition will set benchmarks for other companies, and it will encourage development of partnership relations between the business community, society and the government’.
The Award was established in 2006 and is based on the European Sustainability Reporting Awards.
